Its never great when you login to update your blog and realise that all of the wonderful things you had planned on sharing, are still only found in your own brain... Nepenthe updates (cushion and quilt), the design process on the newest project bowl I am working on, testing samples for kits. Theres been a bit going on. None of that is overly relevent to the task at hand though, Orbit. I'm just going to run the show and tell line up the same as last month, no favouritism I promise!!

After a gentle stalk I can see that my girl Shameaka seems to be engaging more with the real work that the "social" one. Gold stars for being present and we hope to see your beautiful quilt again soon.

Jenny, always on time had her photos over to me so quickly.

I am not sure if it is design or intuition, but the colours balance themselves out so beautifully. The brighter pops of blue twinkling in among all the pinks and greens, absolutely stunning.

From Lee - "The temperature quilt has fallen behind schedule… in a safe place somewhere the flimsy has the first week or so of May attached, the project box has about two weeks worth cut and the last week noted On the bright side I’ve realised its more time efficient to cut and mark in batches, probably more efficient to sew more than one at a time too … Also, whilst looking for the flimsy I found the spotty fabric I hope to either border or bind with."

Its hard to think, but at the end of this month we will be half way through this project! I was watching an Insta clip the other morning that was telling me that June 2nd was actually the middle of the year... which means we are already past half way. Now we are on the "downhill slide" for 2025 my mind is turning over ideas for quilting this beauty, adding borders...Lee and I had a brief chat about that today actually. I think this quilt needs a border, so I will be updating the pattern to include how to instructions for that. Looking at Jenny's month segment has highlighted another difference in approach, she has a whole month chunk, and I attach what I can each week. No idea which one is more practical, but I love observing all the unique ways people go about the same project. It absolutely fascinates me.

Orbit Quilt, May segment.
May 2025

Here is a picture to illustrate what I mean, my May was just an odd jumble of shapes. I spent the first few days of the month plugging holes so that I could assemble the rest of the month in neater rows! So unfortunately my quilt will be a bit of a "vibe" than something I can look at and know exactly which block was which date.

Usually I would snap a few pictures as I go during the month, but with winter well and truly upon us the light in my studio is terrible. Actually the whole house has terrible light for photography. I love living in warm light, but with wooden walls and warm white globes everything has a sepia look to it. Very cosy, but not great for a clean, crip shot.

Back on borders, I think a nice 4" one might be absolute perfection for this project... with a bright, vibrant binding. And your treat for reading this far?? I have designed the next block a day quilt if you are keen for an adventure. Drop a comment if you'd like me to share the initial layout. Until next month possums! Cass
