Starfall - May Show & Tell

I fear the mid-year slump may be upon us, we only have three participants for show and tell this month (assuming I count as one). For those of us in the Southern hemisphere the days are shorter and its getting colder. I know for me, the past three weeks of grey skies and it is seriously effecting my mood (I need a minimum of 80% sun and blue skies to be happy). While those sewing along in the Northern hemisphere I get it, its summer now, why be indoors sewing?? These things ebb and flow, so I think in a month or two we will have more photos then we know what to do with! I know Michelle @strawberriesandbobbins had a big month with other makes, Nikki @cottoncraftdesigns has been flat out with her day job (editing Dotti's Castle among other designers work) AND designing her first fabric range (I am willing this into existance, its gorgeous). Lee @quarteracreblock has been busy with her knits, BUT, she has an update for us. Her scrappy Starfall is looking incredible. Let's start off with the Northern Hemisphere - Summer sewing needs to be rewarded!

Lets all just take a moment to appreciate the mustard / black / cream star in the middle. I am loving the fussy cut middle that spirals out, it is also in one of my favourite colour stories at the moment - YUM!

And the Navy / Berry combo on in the row, perfection! I think I will be trying my own version of that in the coming month.

Lee's Scrappy Starfall - Well on the way to being assembled!

I absolutely adore this quilt, and everytime Lee pops up and update I get so excited. This is definitely at the most time consuming part of the make, assembly. There is so much work and so little dopamine in this step, no newly uncovered stars - just a lot of sewing that seems to be never ending.

Well, at least thats how I feel about this step.

Now for my update, here we go. Looking at my month in a glance it just shows me how busy I was, one of my "codes" to document my year was the use of white. White for me is to show overwhelm / sensory overload / muteness (yeah, I am a neuro-spicy that suffers from selective mutism. It's a pesky inconvenience). I can also see the day my dog Ollie was rushed to the Vet, and when my fabric strike offs for Iconic arrived. A terrifying day in the most archaic use of the word. I know I have said it before, but I love having a visual diary. My stressed out brain means that my memory can be pretty patchy, and having a visual trigger really helps me to remember the details of a year. Sadly I did not get a chance to work on my Sally Kelly Xanadu Block A Week version this month, but I will have double (or tripple) the stars to show next month. I managed to catch a nasty bug off the kids and I lost a whole week. On the upside, I decided my border fabrics and have started to baste them up! I am so excited, at the moment my finished rows look incomplete (aside from the fact they are just a collection of single rows) and I know adding in those border stars will make such a big difference.

I have gone with a mix of dark blues, so it will be similar to the joiners but different enough. I am hoping that having a mix of prints and tones will mimic the feature stars, but not overwhelm them. Crossing my fingers it works, and that next month I have photos to share of the border going together.

And that's all for now Possums! Thank you for reading to the end (or at all) and I hope you enjoyed the update. Cass xx
