Did anyone else here in Oz take advantage of the EOFY sales? I tried too, but everything I needed was full priced! Always the way. I do love to support other small businesses though (lord knows my Postie will never be out of a job) and grabbed a few spools of my favourite sewing thread and a restock on piecing and quilting needles. I am surprised that not too many online stores stock these brands, or stock one and not the other... I don't mind supporting small but I hate getting a double whack on postage. I am very much a "girl math" girly and will buy enough to hit free shipping.
When all was delivered and I had FINALLY managed to get into the post satchel (Bl**dy childproof nonsense) I may have actually squealed at the colour combo on the Cotton + Steel box, I loved it so much I kept it in my desk. Does anyone else have a box of things they find lovely as inspiration? Eventually I will just keep the sticker side in a box labeled "inspiration" (imaginative I know). It may be something I picked up as a studio designer, colour combos / print finishes / interesting die lines... I love them all. Back to the topic at hand, I know that pink and orange (or pink and red) can be quite a polarisng topic, for me though I love it. Shade depending of course, but I just love this pumpkin orange and subtly mauve pink colour combo. Actually I have just realised the star is the same shade as my bathtub! LOL, well thats a different story but maybe I should paint my wall pumpkin...
This project is one half of what will be our Dear Heart pattern set and become a fundraising piece for my son's SSP (school for special purpose) school. Basically I am trying to assuage my guilt over never being able to manage the usual P&C / school mum fundraisers. Like most schools this one is desperately underfunded and I want to find a meaningful way I can contribute to the school culture aaannnnddd all the consumables I know my son uses on the regular. He has an unhealthy obsession with hand soap for starters.
A heart may not be the most commercial idea for a pattern, but it is through love that we all get the most meaningful change isn't it?
I did a "classic Cass" move and made teensy tiny pieces again... I both love and hate myself clearly. I love the detail you can achieve with the smaller pieces but my sausage fingers really struggle some days, that and my eyes. I will confess to having in contacts AND wearing my glasses at the same time. Doesn't help that its been overcast here for a week and my #AllShadesOfWood house absorbs light like a black hole.
Making this made me realise I really need some more small scale prints in my stash. I honestly thought I had heaps but as you can see there is a lot of different pink shades and not a whole lot of contrasting print showing. Live and learn moment.
At risk of sounding like the middle aged woman I am, I did contemplate stuffing a piece of batting soaked in some essential oils into this as I sewed it shut. The laminate would protect from stains and I can see this hanging in my office smelling all kinds of pretty. Thoughts?? Safer (for the cats) than those bamboo rod smelly thing, well and for me too. I can't have a wine glass with a stem these days as my talkative hands tend to annihilate them.
Until next week when I unveil some pretty awesome news! So enjoy this view from my driveway and keep warm Possums, its chilly out!
