Cass's Orbit Quilt - October 2025

I am a little behind this month! If you don't follow along on social media, I helped to chaperone my son's school camp - we explored Dubbo in regional NSW. I was a lot of fun, we explored the amazing zoo which is over 300ha in size, not that the public get access to all of it. It really is nice to visit a zoo where animals have enough space to create a reasonable facimile of their natural habitats. There were also limestone caves just under an hour from where we stayed, so we took a look at those as well.. they were quite small, but spectacular.

Now to the quilts!! Lee has had a month, so she will be catching up to us over the next few weeks (fingers crossed) and I can't wait to see the colours for October and November. We are most definitely heading into summer down here and beautiful cool days are a thing of the past. Well, except in Dubbo where we had 6 Deg C over night... I definitely did not pack for that!

Jenny's Orbit Quilt - October 2025

I LOVE this photo that Jenny sent through for her October picture. If it isnt a cat, there is a kid under your quilt testing it out at any oportunity. My minions and felines are exactly the same. I really love that I can see two birthdays in this segment, marking those special days in your year are just magic to me.

I think Jenny had a more straight forward assembly plan than I did. Don't worry, I have updated the pattern to reflect a good way to assemble month chunks. It won't work for a temperature quilt, but for a visual diary approach it will be awesome.

You can see from the photo above just how close we are to finishing these quilts! I am so excited and honored that Jenny and Lee have stuck with me this year, it really is a big commitment that requires some staying power. So nearly there!!

Here is my October! We can see my mum's birthday memorialised in the adorable Heather Baily burro's fabric. Mum would love a donkey (or two), but we still don't have paddock fencing so that will have to wait. Maybe for her 75th? You may notice that there is a lot of white in this month... that would be stain blocking and painting the cedar walls in my dining area. I know, its a crime against cedar paneling to paint it, but it was so dark I was getting depressed in winter. There is also some lovely smokey blue, this is the colour of the feature wall now! I am NOT a pastel person but I think the house likes this colour. Other things immortalised would be the bruises my poor legs got from the ladder while painting, Alex's first trip to the library, the death of our beloved Pekin duck Dolly (and the foundling bird we tried to save) as well as the eternal war I seem to be having with ASTP (long story).

Orbit 2025

I am now at full width and height for my own Orbit! If you look closely you may see that it is in three sections right now: Jan - June, then two sections July- Sept then October. I think I will have enough chambray left to add some four inch border to this, so excited. But looking at it today, I am wondering if I need some bright 1in sashing between quilt and borders... what do you think? Aaaannndddd, just in case anyone was wanting to join in next year with a sew along, here is the Starfall sample! So a little more ambitious than this year, one 6 pointed star per day. There are 8 star variations included in the pattern - so each quilt will be so incredibly unique.

See you next month Possums!
